The Ministry of Water Resources has developed a government resolution to establish the non-profit joint-stock company "National Hydrogeological Service 'Kazhydrogeology'." The agency aims to digitize the management of underground water resources.
The main activities of the National Hydrogeological Service will include digitizing the management of underground water resources, creating databases, continuously operating geoinformation systems in the field of hydrogeology and geofiltration models, digital and cartographic databases, and systems for managing them using remote sensing data.
The organizational procedures for establishing the National Hydrogeological Service will be carried out by the Committee of State Property and Privatization of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Kazakhstan in conjunction with the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
According to the resolution, the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation and the Ministry of Finance must approve the charter of the National Hydrogeological Service, register the organization with the judicial authorities, select a person to sign documents on behalf of the service for state registration, financial and economic activities, and representation of the organization's interests before third parties until the management bodies are established.
"At present, the share of underground water use in the economy of Kazakhstan is 7-10%. We intend to more actively use these resources for drinking water supply, irrigation, and livestock farming. The National Hydrogeological Service being created is intended to ensure the exploration and protection of the country's underground water resources," noted the Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Nurzhan Nurzhigitov.
The project is posted on the "Open NPA" portal for public discussion until April 19, 2024.
The National Hydrogeological Service will be reestablished in Kazakhstan by the President's order, as voiced in the Address to the People of Kazakhstan "Economic Course of Just Kazakhstan" dated September 1, 2023.
