in News / Kazakhstan - by

The flood peak in the Kostanay region has passed, as reported by the regional Department of Emergency Situations on April 9th. Currently, 161 private houses remain flooded in the Kostanay and Karasu districts and the city of Kostanay. The water discharge at the Karamtomar reservoir has been reduced to 2200 cubic meters per second, leading to a decrease in the water level in the Tobol River by approximately 40 centimeters.

Special attention is being paid to the settlements along the Tobol and Tyuntiugur rivers. Two roads to the regional center remain closed, with traffic being redirected through the Central bridge. Thanks to the efforts of rescuers, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, specialized services, and volunteers, around 795,068 cubic meters of water have been pumped out, over 86,754 sandbags have been laid, and 7351 tons of inert materials have been used. A total of 9097 people have been rescued and evacuated, with 759 individuals currently in temporary shelters.

Efforts to pump out meltwater and lay sandbags are ongoing in several regions, including Fedorovsky, Karasu, Kostanay, Auliekol, Sarykol, and Naurzum districts, as well as in the city of Kostanay. Local and district authorities are accepting claims for compensation for material damage caused by the natural disaster. Commissions are assessing the extent of damage to property, with all efforts focused on minimizing flood damage and ensuring the safety of the population. It is important to remember that only cooperation and solidarity can help overcome the adverse consequences of natural disasters, as emphasized by the department.
