The leader of a criminal group from Azerbaijan has been extradited to Kazakhstan, as reported by the General Prosecutor's Office on April 11, 2024. The suspect led a criminal group from 2016 to 2018, involved in smuggling consumer goods into Kazakhstan, evading customs duties and taxes, causing over 4 billion tenge in damage to the state.
After committing the crimes, he fled and was internationally wanted. The General Prosecutor's Office of Azerbaijan approved Kazakhstan's request for his extradition. The suspect is now in pre-trial detention in Aktau, facing imprisonment of seven to twelve years with property confiscation.
In December 2019, 12 individuals linked to the same criminal group were sentenced in the Mangystau region. In another case, on February 23, 2024, Kazakhstan also extradited a leader of a transnational organized crime group from Poland, which operated in Kazakhstan in 2022, manufacturing and selling large quantities of psychotropic substances.
