in News / Kazakhstan - by

During a briefing on April 15, 2024, Alina Ismagulova, the press secretary of the Republican State Enterprise "Kazhydromet," provided information about the regions in Kazakhstan where water levels are expected to rise in the upcoming days. Ismagulova mentioned that persistent rainy weather is affecting most parts of the country as atmospheric fronts move through.

Forecasts indicate heavy rain in the mountainous regions of the southeast and south, while the northern areas may witness a transition from rain to snow at night. Thunderstorms, fog, and strong winds are predicted throughout Kazakhstan, with gusty winds expected in the southern regions.

Moreover, hydrological storm warnings are active in four regions. These include a snow avalanche hazard alert in the Almaty region until April 16, storm warnings for the Abay and East Kazakhstan regions due to potential snowmelt and slope runoff causing rising river levels, a risk of increased water levels in rivers in the north and northeast of the Kostanay region until April 17, and the possibility of slope runoff and rising river levels in the mountainous and foothill areas of the Zhambyl region until April 16.

Earlier reports indicated that individuals affected by floods would receive tax and payment deferrals.
