in News / Kazakhstan - by

In preparation for the peak flooding season, authorities in West Kazakhstan Region have intensified protective measures, mobilized all forces, and taken timely actions to ensure the city residents have access to water.

The flood protection measures are being organized at the facilities of Batys Su Arnasy LLP, Zhaiykteploenergo JSC, and the pumping station, according to the press service of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Water supply in Oral is sourced from underground wells and the Ural River. Currently, Batys Su Arnasy, which provides water to 340,000 city residents, is operating normally with sufficient water reserves and purification agents. Emergency crews, 820 employees, and 82 specialized vehicles are on standby.

To prevent flooding of strategic sites along the Zhaiyk River, flood protection works are underway to reinforce the dam. Mobile water carriers are available to ensure water supply to the city residents, as stated by the Chief Engineer of Batys Su Arnasy, Ayan Taskali.

Zhaiykteploenergo is responsible for over 248 km of urban heating networks. As part of flood protection efforts, vulnerable areas are being filled with sand and gravel mix. 180 personnel and 15 pieces of specialized equipment are involved in these activities.

In West Kazakhstan Region, there are over 20,000 km of power lines, more than 20 substations in four districts, and 16 substations in Oral, all located on elevated ground to prevent flooding. Precautionary measures are being taken, including the use of sandbags and earthworks. Emergency crews, consisting of 1,400 employees and 140 specialized vehicles, are ready to respond.

Flood protection measures are also in place to safeguard the pumping station on the Zhaiyk River, which supplies water to Zhaiykteploenergo and drinking water to around 60,000 cubic meters daily.

As preparations for the upcoming flood peak continue, over 6,300 personnel and 1,500 pieces of equipment are involved in flood protection activities in the region. Measures are being implemented to strengthen residential areas.

On April 15, it was announced that all efforts and resources have been mobilized by the government to divert floodwaters from populated areas and minimize flood damage in West Kazakhstan Region.
