Water Reservoir Situation Update in West Kazakhstan Region

The press service of the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of Kazakhstan reported on the situation at the reservoirs in the West Kazakhstan region on April 21st.

According to the department, specialists from the West Kazakhstan branch of "Kazvodkhoz" are safely releasing floodwaters. Four reservoirs of the Ural-Kushum irrigation system are being filled. Currently, they hold 217 million cubic meters of water, which is 83.4% of the total volume.

"Four reservoirs along the Small Uzen River are filled to 91%, holding 101 million cubic meters of water. In three reservoirs along the Big Uzen River, 104.6 million cubic meters of water have been collected, which is 67% of the total volume. The flooding on the Big and Small Uzen Rivers is over, with a total of 428 million cubic meters of floodwater received," the statement said.

It is noted that the water level in the Zhaiyk River in the city of Uralsk is at 854 cm. The water level in the Shagan River near the village of Chuvashinskoye in the Bayterek district of the West Kazakhstan region is at 733 cm. The water level in the Derkul River near the village of Beles is at 239 cm.

"Specialists from 'Kazvodkhoz' are constantly exchanging information with water services in the Orenburg and Saratov regions of the Russian Federation," the ministry concluded.

On April 21st, in Uralsk, due to the rise in the water level of the Zhaiyk River, there was an overflow over a makeshift dam.
