Russian journalist Ksenia Sobchak has commented on her presence in Astana at the trial of former minister Kuandyk Bishimbayev, who is accused of murdering his civil wife Saltanat Nukenova. Sobchak stated that her team is covering the story independently and will share more details later. She clarified that no party invited them to the court, and they followed the accreditation procedure through the Supreme Court.
Sobchak flew in to observe the trial firsthand at the Specialized Inter-District Court for Criminal Cases in the capital. The trial is being presided over by the chairperson of this court, Aizhan Kulbayeva. The court proceedings are being broadcast live, with the participation of jurors. Kuandyk Bishimbayev and his brother, the director of "Gastrocenter" Bakhytzhan Bayzhanov, are sitting in the defendants' dock, with Bishimbayev denying his guilt.
