Fatal Bus Accident Trial: State Prosecutor Requests 8-Year Imprisonment

In Almaty on April 25, 2024, the trial continues regarding a fatal road accident involving a bus in which three people died. The court proceedings have been broadcast live for the second day in a row.

The online broadcast from the courtroom is being conducted on the YouTube channel of the Supreme Court of Kazakhstan.

Today, during the court debates, the state prosecutor and the victims presented their arguments. The state prosecutor requested the court to find the defendant guilty of the charges and to impose a final sentence of eight years of imprisonment for the aggregate of crimes. The court session has been adjourned until 11:00 on April 26.

On the eve of April 24, the defendant, Darkhan Akhmetzhanov, stated that the female driver did not lose consciousness after he hit her.

The tragic road accident occurred in December 2023 on Raiymbek Avenue in Almaty. A public bus on route No. 47 collided with a crowd of people at a public transport stop. Three people died, and four others sustained physical injuries.

In the ongoing trial, the defendant presented his version of the events on April 3, 2024. On April 10, the families of the deceased individuals named the amount of moral damages.
