Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has announced that the victims of the floods in Kazakhstan will be compensated and their homes restored within a specific timeframe.

During the XXXIII session of the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan, the head of state emphasized that the overall victory over the natural disaster is not far off. Reconstruction of the affected regions will commence once the floodwaters recede.

"First and foremost, citizens will be compensated for the damages, and the construction of houses and allocation of apartments, as well as the restoration of the destroyed infrastructure, will begin. A short period of five years has been allocated for this massive undertaking, but I am confident that we will succeed," stated Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

He noted that as a result of the massive floods, thousands of people lost their property and a source of income. Therefore, all affected individuals will receive a one-time payment, followed by compensation for the damaged or destroyed property after assessment. The government will also repair damaged houses and build new ones in place of the destroyed ones.

"However, it should be noted that building housing in floodplains inherently carries the risk of re-flooding and destruction. Therefore, the selection of locations for the construction of new districts should take into account the hydrological and geographical characteristics of each particular settlement. Local authorities must strictly adhere to the relevant regulations. I believe that the upcoming extensive construction will create new opportunities for the citizens," added Tokayev.

On March 20, the head of state signed a decree convening the XXXIII session of the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan. The agenda is centered around "Unity. Creation. Progress."
