Bridges in Aktobe Region Rendered Unusable by Floods; Residents Face Challenges

in News / Kazakhstan - by

In the Aktobe region, two bridges have become almost unusable due to floods. Residents are now crossing them on foot as vehicles are unable to pass.

The head of the branch of KazAvtoZhola, Aibol Danagul, reported that near Emby, on the bridge over the Zhem River, a support sank during the flood. Cars cannot pass through, so they have to detour through Zhanazhol, covering about 160 km instead of the usual 92, as reported by Diapazon.

This bridge is 47 years old and will be replaced with a new one due to its age.

There is also no passage on the bridge over the Uil River. There, a support has also sunk. Residents are now crossing the river on boats or pontoons and then continuing on foot across the bridge. A kilometer of temporary road has been built before the crossing, and a bypass road will be constructed. The Uil bridge has been inspected.

"It will be repaired, and the work will be completed this year," said the head of the Department of Passenger Transport and Highways Management, Bekbolat Nurashev.

Overall, there have been 15 cases of overflow on republican and regional roads in the region due to the thawing water flow. Almost all roads have been repaired after the water receded.

"On the Shubarkuduk - Uil - Sol-Iletsk route near Zhirenkopa in the Kobdinsky district, water is still standing, and traffic is closed. Residents are using the bypass road. After the water recedes, everything will be put in order, and traffic will resume. Also, traffic is currently restricted on the Aktobe - Bolgarka - Shubarkuduk route between Ashysay and Shygyrly in the Temir district. Only light vehicles are allowed to pass, while heavy vehicles are prohibited. The road will be repaired by May 1," Bekbolat Nurashev explained.

On April 14, it was reported that compensation for flood damage is being paid to those affected in the Aktobe region.
