Eugene Zhuravlev, the press secretary of the Department of Emergency Situations of the North Kazakhstan Region, announced during a briefing at the Regional Crisis Center on April 26th when the water levels in the region will begin to recede and the peak of the flood will be passed.

The spokesperson stated that the situation in the region is challenging but stable. "The Sergeyevskoye reservoir is filled to 152%, with overflow over the crest at 2 meters 75 centimeters and decreasing. In the upper reaches above the Sergeyevskoye reservoir and downstream along the Esil River in the territories of Shalakyn, Gabit Musrepov, Esil district, and part of the Kyzylzhar district, a steady decrease in water levels is observed," he informed.

According to him, the water level at the hydrological station in the village of Pokrovka decreased by 23 centimeters in one day. "The peak of the flood is currently passing through Petropavlovsk. Here, we have recorded an increase of 13 centimeters in the previous day. According to the Kazhydromet forecast, the peak of the flood will pass by the end of the week. Then there will be a gradual decrease. From May 1st, a steady decline in water levels is predicted throughout the North Kazakhstan region," added the press secretary of the Department of Emergency Situations of the North Kazakhstan Region.

Eugene Zhuravlev noted that currently 3702 houses remain flooded, mainly private residential homes. "Water has receded from 196 houses. 14,388 people have been evacuated, including 3,596 children. There are 906 people, including 159 children, in temporary accommodation centers. We have 13 of these centers – eight in districts and five in Petropavlovsk. Adequate and acceptable living conditions have been created. Once the peak passes in Petropavlovsk, we plan to use all water pumping equipment to pump water back into the Esil River from the flooded areas, especially in the Podgora district. This is a lengthy process, but we will exert all efforts," the press secretary of the Department of Emergency Situations of the North Kazakhstan Region stated.

He also mentioned that currently, units are patrolling the flooded areas jointly with police officers, monitoring the water levels, and assisting in the emergency transportation of critically ill individuals. Flood response headquarters are operating around the clock in Petropavlovsk and the regions of the North Kazakhstan Region.

Since April 22nd, specialists from the firefighting service of the Department of Emergency Situations of the North Kazakhstan Region have been assembling a pumping station with a lifting height of 10 meters and a pipe diameter of 500 millimeters.
