In the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES) of Kazakhstan, new figures on the return of citizens to their homes after floods have been provided.
As clarified by the MES representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Askar Sharip, since the beginning of the flood, 119,220 people have been rescued and evacuated, including 44,776 children.
"In the North Kazakhstan, Atyrau, and Aktobe regions, water has been drained from 6148 residential buildings and 2794 yard territories... Across the republic, 36,745 people have returned home. 6909 people are still in evacuation points. Over 27,000 people are involved in emergency rescue and flood control operations," he said at a briefing in North Kazakhstan on April 27, 2024.
According to him, civil defense services continue to work on flood control measures, eliminating the consequences of floods, and providing assistance to the population in Atyrau, Aktobe, West Kazakhstan, and North Kazakhstan regions. The situation in the West Kazakhstan region is stabilizing. Monitoring of flooded cottage areas is ongoing. Emergency situations and police department personnel jointly patrol the flooded areas.
"Monitoring of the situation in the Atyrau region continues. Water levels are being monitored. In order to protect against floods in Atyrau, continuous work is being done to strengthen dams. To date, 498 kilometers of dams have been reinforced," he added.
On April 24, 2024, the MES of Kazakhstan announced that 31,112 people have returned to their homes, while 8566 people, including 3718 children, remain in evacuation centers.
