On March 8, 1958, the Almaty television studio "Qazaqstan" made its debut on live television, marking the beginning of Kazakhstani television. The State Television and Radio Committee of the Kazakh Soviet Socialist Republic conducted the first trial broadcast from the Almaty TV studio. This was followed by the retransmission of the First Program to regional Kazakh studios. During the Soviet era, programs of the State Television and Radio Committee of the Kazakh SSR were separated into a distinct program called "Kazakh Television," covering the entire Kazakh SSR.

In 1992, the State Television and Radio Committee of the Kazakh SSR was reorganized into the State Television and Radio Company "Kazakhstan" (GTRK "Kazakhstan"). During the same period, the channels "Kazakhstan 2" were launched, and "Kazakh Television" was renamed "Kazakhstan 1." Currently, the television channel has moved to Astana and broadcasts from the Kazmedia Center.

The channel "Kazakhstan" has a regional network in 14 regions of Kazakhstan, with each region's channel named according to the city of broadcast.
