Atyrau Region's Emergency Situations Headquarters provided information today, on May 3, 2024, about the water levels in the Kigach and Sharonovka rivers over the past day. The water level in these rivers, as well as in the Zhaiyke River in the Urals, continues to rise.
According to the hydrological monitoring data from the "Kazhydromet" State Enterprise in the Atyrau region as of 8:00, there is an increase in the water level in the Kigach and Sharonovka tributaries of the Volga River basin:
- At the Kigach River hydrological station in Shortanbai village, the water level is at 363 cm, with a rise of +4 cm in the past day, totaling an increase of 234 cm since the start of the flood.
- At the Kigach River hydrological station in Kotyaevka village, the water level is at 229 cm, with a rise of +5 cm in the past day, totaling an increase of 219 cm since the start of the flood.
- At the Sharonovka River hydrological station in Ganyushkino village, the water level is at 219 cm, with a rise of +3 cm in the past day, totaling an increase of 119 cm since the start of the flood.
The rise in water level is attributed to increased discharges during the flood period from the Volgograd Reservoir.
It is also noted that as of May 3, the discharges from the Volga Hydroelectric Power Station amount to 16,120 cubic meters per second.
Earlier reports indicated a significant rise in the water level in the Zhaiyke River in the Urals. According to the Atyrau Region's Emergency Situations Headquarters, further increases in water levels are expected. More details can be found here.
