Kazakhstan's National Statistics Bureau has provided updated data on the country's population.
According to the bureau, as of April 1, 2024, the population of Kazakhstan stood at 20,095,963 people. This figure includes 12,513,014 urban residents and 7,582,949 rural inhabitants.
Breakdown by major cities revealed that on April 1, Almaty was home to 2,236,751 people, Nur-Sultan (formerly Astana) to 1,440,821, and Shymkent slightly less with 1,226,931 residents.
On November 16, 2023, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced the birth of the 20-millionth citizen of Kazakhstan. Subsequently, the National Statistics Bureau detailed how they identified the 20-millionth resident of the country.
On April 25, 2024, the statistical authority stated that the life expectancy at birth for the population in 2023 reached 75.09 years, marking a record high for the past 25 years.
The highest life expectancy at birth was recorded in Almaty at 78.28 years, while the lowest was in the Ulytau region at 72.41 years.
