Antonov An-2 Medical Flight Crashes into Water After Takeoff, All Safe

An Antonov An-2 aircraft, performing a medical flight from Arkalyk to Aksunkar, sharply decreased altitude after takeoff and crashed into a body of water on May 3rd.

The Ministry of Transport stated that the medical flight No. AK31224, operated by the airline "Navigator," with the aircraft type An-2 and the registration number UP-A0124, was en route from Arkalyk to Aksunkar (Kostanay) at 16:10. After takeoff, the aircraft performed a maneuver resulting in a sudden descent and subsequently crashed into the water (meltwater).

It was noted that there were two crew members and three service passengers on board the aircraft. All passengers and crew members were evacuated by the Department of Emergency Situations of the Kostanay region to the city hospital of Arkalyk. Preliminary information indicates no fatalities or injuries. The Department for the Investigation of Incidents and Accidents in Transport is dispatching personnel to the aviation incident site, according to the press release.

The authorities stated that in accordance with the rules for investigating incidents and accidents, this aviation event is classified as an aviation incident and will be investigated by the authorized body in the field of civil aviation. A commission has been established to investigate the aviation incident.

The causes and circumstances of this incident are currently under investigation.

Previously, there was another aviation incident reported where two helicopters collided in the air during a military parade rehearsal in Malaysia.
