Rising Ural River Poses Threat as Water Levels Surge in Atyrau

The Emergency Headquarters of the Atyrau Region provided an update on the water level in the Ural River as of 08:00 on May 4, 2024. Specialists emphasize that the water level continues to rise.

Changes in water levels over the past 24 hours:

  • Village of Inderbor: the water level rose by 32 cm, reaching 820 cm with a critical level of 845 cm.
  • Village of Makhambet: a rise of 8 cm was recorded, with the water level at 828 cm and a critical level of 850 cm.
  • Atyrau: the water level increased by 5 cm in the last day, currently at 479 cm with a critical level of 550 cm.

The water level in the Ural River continues to increase daily.

On May 3, it was reported that near Atyrau, a herd of drowning horses was rescued. Horses from the Akzhaik District found themselves trapped in the water of the Ural River. During grazing, the shepherds lost sight of them. Rescuers, together with local authorities, herded the animals to a safe location. In total, 365 horses, including 31 foals, were saved.
