Emergency Operations Continue in Kazakhstan as Thousands Return Home After Floods

According to the representative of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Askar Sharip, as of May 5th, 49,819 people have returned to their homes in the flooded regions.

The official stated during a briefing at the Crisis Management Center that 8,615 residential buildings and 2,994 courtyard territories have had water drained and pumped out across the country. A total of 14,409 individuals, 1,413 pieces of equipment, 311 water pumping devices, 69 floating facilities, and 5 aircraft are involved in emergency rescue and flood control operations.

Over 15 million cubic meters of meltwater have been pumped out nationwide, with more than 7.7 million sandbags laid and over 1.5 million tons of inert material used.

Efforts are ongoing in the city of Kulsary in the Atyrau region, where water is being pumped out from over 100 flooded houses and 10 business facilities. Work is also being carried out in Petropavlovsk and the Kyzylzhar district of the North Kazakhstan region.

According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, rescue teams have drained water from 2,815 homes in Kulsary over the past week.
