Emergency Update: Rising Water Levels in Atyrau Region, Horses Rescued.

Emergency Situations Headquarters of the Atyrau Region provided an update on the water levels in the Ural River as of 20:00 on May 6, 2024.

Changes in water levels over the past day:

- In Inderbor village, the water level rose by 16 cm. The current water level is 900 cm, with a critical level at 845 cm.

- Makhambet village saw a 7 cm increase in water levels, reaching 868 cm, with a critical level at 850 cm.

- The water level in Atyrau city rose by 5 cm, now at 501 cm, with a critical level at 550 cm.

- In Zhanatalap village, the water level rose by 4 cm, currently at 360 cm, with a critical level at 500 cm.

- Erkinkala village experienced a 4 cm increase in water levels, now at 320 cm, with a critical level at 450 cm.

On May 3, it was reported that a herd of drowning horses was rescued near Atyrau. The horses from the Akzhaik district found themselves trapped by water in the Ural River while grazing, and the shepherds lost sight of them. Rescuers, in coordination with local authorities, herded the animals to safety. A total of 365 horses, including 31 foals, were saved in the operation.
