Kazakhstan Flood Update: Over 50K Return Home, Ongoing Relief Efforts

After the onset of floods, 50,467 Kazakhstani citizens have returned to their homes, as reported by the authorities.

Currently, 5,447 people remain in temporary accommodation centers, according to the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Across the country, water has been drained from 9,660 residential buildings and 3,213 yards, amounting to a total of 16.2 million cubic meters of meltwater.

In the city of Kulsary in the Atyrau region, the city of Petropavlovsk, and the Kyzylzhar district in the North Kazakhstan region, continuous efforts are being made to pump water out of flooded houses around the clock. In Petropavlovsk and the Kyzylzhar district, water has been drained from 704 houses and 219 yards in a day, totaling 130,227 cubic meters of water. Monitoring of water levels in rivers is ongoing.

For flood prevention operations, forces and resources have been dispatched to the North Kazakhstan region from the Department of Emergency Situations of the city of Almaty, as well as from the Abai, Kostanay, and Pavlodar regions.

In the village of Kuilys in the Zhaisanbai Irgiz district of the Aktobe region, efforts to strengthen riverbanks are ongoing, with hourly monitoring of the water level in the Torgai River. In a day, 4,600 units of sandbags and 710 tons of inert materials have been laid.

Over the past day, the units of the Ministry of Emergency Situations' radiation, chemical, and biological protection in the Kyzylzhar district of the North Kazakhstan region conducted disinfection of 97 flooded houses. In Kulsary and Zhylyoysky district of the Atyrau region, disinfection was carried out on flooded residential buildings and territories. Additionally, the Defense Ministry's troops conducted similar operations on flooded areas covering a total of 65.2 hectares in the suburbs of the city of Uralsk in the West Kazakhstan region.

A total of 11,458 personnel and 1,289 pieces of equipment, including 329 water pumping devices, 68 swimming vehicles, and six aircraft, are involved in the flood prevention efforts.
