Elevator Falls in Semey: 6 Injured in Overloaded Shaft Plunge

On May 8th, it was reported in Semey that an elevator fell down the shaft in a multi-story residential building on Auezov Avenue with six people inside.

The press service of the Abai region's Department of Internal Affairs stated that the incident occurred due to an overload. "On May 8, 2024, around 11:40, six people entered the elevator of the second entrance. Due to exceeding the permissible weight, the elevator cables could not hold, and it fell with the passengers inside the shaft. The height of the fall is unknown, and the elevator's capacity is 320 kg."

Information about the injured individuals is as follows:

- Niskuba L.A., born in 1958, diagnosis: closed fracture of the lower third of the shin.

- Gladkova L.N., born in 1961, diagnosis: open fracture of the tibia, closed fracture of the upper third of the tibia.

- Nuradin D.A., born in 2004, diagnosis: closed fracture of the right knee joint.

- Baigali A.B., born in 2004, diagnosis: closed fracture of the left knee joint.

- Kozybayeva G.S., born in 1982, diagnosis: closed fracture of the lumbar spine, closed fracture of the left hip joint, closed fracture of the left ankle joint, closed fracture of the right knee joint.

- Bolymbayev S.A., born in 1974, diagnosis: closed fracture of the shin joint on both sides.

"The injured have been taken to the city emergency hospital in Semey where they are receiving medical treatment. This incident has been registered in the Unified Register of Pretrial Investigations under No. 241029031000573 of the Auezov District Police Department in Semey on May 8, 2024, according to part 2 of Article 306 of the Criminal Code of Kazakhstan. Investigative actions are being carried out," the police reported.
