in News / Kazakhstan - by

In the Akmola region, ongoing efforts are being made to assist the population affected by the flood. The regional authorities have fully provided one-time assistance to 1626 affected individuals and inspected 1818 houses for compensation purposes, as reported by the Department of Internal Policy.

Efforts have also begun to purchase housing for residents whose homes are beyond repair. Recently, Marat Akhmetzhanov, the akim of the Akmola region, handed over keys to 27 families from the Atbasar district and 13 families from the city of Kokshetau.

Speaking on behalf of the region, Akhmetzhanov emphasized, "As part of the President's directive, we continue to hand over keys to apartments to citizens whose homes have been affected by natural disasters and rendered uninhabitable. In addition, we are taking all necessary measures to compensate for damages, provide one-time assistance, and more. There is a significant amount of work ahead in restoring homes and damaged infrastructure."

Among those who received keys was Natalya Zaika, a resident of the village of Borisovka. The mother of multiple children chose a new home in a flood-safe location. She expressed gratitude towards President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev for the assistance provided, stating, "We never lost hope that we would not be left alone in our time of need."

Overall, 53 apartments have been acquired in the cities of Kokshetau and Atbasar, along with 4 houses in the Astrakhan district. This work will continue, with local authorities planning to acquire 161 houses in safe zones based on housing costs in each region.

Furthermore, 169 houses have been repaired for residents in eight districts where water damage occurred. District akimats have plans to construct homes for residents whose houses are consistently affected by flooding. Construction of a 100-apartment residential building in the city of Atbasar, as well as 87 private houses in the Bulandy and Zharkain districts, is set to begin at the end of this May.

In addition, local authorities will be tasked with reconstructing the region's road and engineering infrastructure. Funds from the government's reserve will be allocated for these purposes. As per the Vice Prime Minister's instructions, the restoration works on roads, bridges, and power lines are expected to be completed by July of this year.
