Anar Gabdullina, Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Highways of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan, revealed in the Senate on May 22nd, the sources of funding for road repairs in Kazakhstan.
Senator Olga Bulavkina pointed out that the republican road Ust-Kamenogorsk – Shemonaikha – Russian Federation border has not undergone major repairs since the Soviet Union era, with no funding allocated for its repair in the past five years.
"People entering our territory see litter, broken roads, and a lack of any sanitary conditions... How can we talk about tourism development in the region when even the republican roads are in a dismal state? Despite having a great location and natural conditions, East Kazakhstan cannot compete in any tourism development rankings, as the main issue is the republican roads," she stated.
In response, Anar Gabdullina mentioned that around 40 billion tenge has been allocated for medium repairs of republican roads in 2024. However, due to the flood situation, half of the funds were redirected to restoration works.
"After completing these works, if additional funds are provided upon budget clarification, we will commence the implementation of medium repairs on this section. In addition, the Ministry of Transport is seeking loans from the Development Bank of Kazakhstan – approximately 1 billion dollars to cover all required funds for medium road repairs, aiming to cover up to 12.5 thousand km, as stated by the head of state," she added.
