Algorithm for Building Damage After Earthquake Unveiled in Almaty

in News / Kazakhstan - by

The Almaty akimat presented today an algorithm of actions in case of building damage due to an earthquake.

It was noted that district akimats have commissions consisting of representatives from the Emergency Situations Department, City Development Department, district architects, and other authorized bodies.

In case of any structural damage, citizens are required to submit a statement to the district akimat with photo materials attached. The commission members then conduct an on-site inspection to preliminarily assess the level of damage, whether it affects load-bearing structures or decorative elements like suspended ceilings, plaster, tiles, and facade finishes.

All materials from district commissions are collected at the Almaty City Planning and Urban Development Department, then forwarded to the Kazakh Research and Design Institute of Construction and Architecture (KazNIISA). The institute's specialists provide conclusions on the causes and extent of damage to the specific object.

Regarding funding for restoration works, it was clarified by the Almaty akimat:

- Repairs for social facilities damaged will be covered by the budget.

- Repairs for damaged finishing elements of residential buildings will be covered by the condominium funds.

- If damages posing a threat to building integrity are identified, funds for restoration works will be allocated from the state budget.
