During a briefing on March 14, 2024, Altai Myrzabayev, the Acting Head of the Department for Emergency Situations of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan, revealed the amount of funds allocated to prevent floods across the country. According to Myrzabayev, local executive bodies have allocated over 7 billion tenge for flood prevention measures nationwide.

Preparations for the flood season are ongoing throughout the year, with more than 800 flood prevention activities implemented in 2023. Additionally, a month-long campaign for flood prevention has been ongoing since January 22. Temporary dams are being constructed around residential areas, canals are being cleared, and snow removal efforts have already transported over 15 million cubic meters of snow.

When asked about the adequacy of preparations for the upcoming flood season, Myrzabayev stated that the results will only be known at the end of the period. However, he assured that all measures are being taken to minimize flooding and damage to residential areas.

According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan, 217 populated areas are at risk of flooding. On March 10, 2024, the Ministry reported on efforts to minimize flood damage in the Makanchinsky district of the Abay region.
