Mass Power Outage in Almaty Region Due to Adverse Weather Conditions

Due to worsening weather conditions in some areas of the Almaty region, a massive power outage occurred on March 14th. According to the press service of the akimat of the Almaty region, the district akimats and the city of Konaeva have organized duty shifts, and all emergency repair teams of the power transmission organization JSC "AZhK" are operating in enhanced mode.

"At the moment, emergency outages are being eliminated by JSC 'AZhK'. Detailed information on the restoration of power supply will be provided later. The situation is under control and is subject to further observation," the message said. However, the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported a short circuit of a transformer in the Talgar district.

"At 19:20, the duty department of the Emergency Situations Department of the Almaty region received a report that a substation caught fire in the village of Shymbulak in the Talgar district. Upon the arrival of firefighters, it was determined that a short circuit of the transformer had occurred without ignition. There are no casualties or injuries," the message stated. The inclement weather also paralyzed Almaty, causing massive traffic jams, disrupting airport operations, and forcing people to push buses.
