Almaty businessman Bahyt Ibragim has been found dead, possibly by suicide. The police have opened a criminal case for incitement to suicide and are conducting an investigation.

Ibragim was previously involved in embezzlement at RBK Bank in 2020 and was released in October 2023. In 2016, Forbes Kazakhstan ranked him as one of the top buyers of large assets. He purchased a cotton processing company for 3.2 billion tenge in 2014. However, complaints arose in 2018 that the company was not paying its debts, leaving cotton farmers in Southern Kazakhstan in a difficult situation.

Ibragim was also involved in a case where funds embezzled by him and others were being returned through a special financial company. Despite an executive order to repay 56.6 billion tenge, Ibragim and his accomplice have not fulfilled their obligations. In 2018, Ibragim was extradited from Germany, and it was reported that he was the former son-in-law of ex-Prime Minister Bakytzhan Sagintayev.
