The Tourism Industry Committee of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of Kazakhstan has released an information bulletin for citizens planning tourist trips to Thailand on March 18, 2024.

According to information from open sources, the province of Buriram in Thailand has issued a warning about the threat of an outbreak of Siberian plague, a severe bacterial disease, after three cases were identified in neighboring Laos.

The bulletin describes the signs of infection that may appear within two months: difficulty breathing and chest pain, from small blisters on the skin to severe symptoms including headaches and diarrhea. Untimely diagnosis of Siberian plague can lead to a fatal outcome. In this regard, it is recommended to take precautions while on vacation and refrain from consuming food of questionable origin. Citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan traveling to Thailand are advised to avoid areas of spread and refrain from visiting places where cases of infection with this virus have been recorded.

The committee reminded that Siberian plague can be transmitted from animals to humans, for example, when consuming raw meat of large cattle and buffaloes.

On March 13, 2024, it was reported that tourists were warned about a possible outbreak of Siberian plague in Thailand.
