The Border Control Management "Almaty" of the National Security Committee (KNB), in collaboration with the KNB Department in Almaty and under the coordination of the prosecutor's office, has successfully thwarted a channel of illegal migration of Afghan citizens to Russia and further into European countries through Kazakhstan.

On March 16, four Afghan citizens were apprehended in the act of attempting to bribe an official with $5,000. The KNB specified that the money was intended for organizing the transportation of foreigners using fake Spanish and Portuguese passports through Almaty International Airport. Pre-trial investigation is ongoing for offenses under Article 394 Part 1 and Article 367 (Bribery) of the Criminal Code of Kazakhstan.

The KNB Press Service stated that the detained individuals have been remanded in custody as a preventive measure, with the court's approval. The Committee on National Security of Kazakhstan emphasized that further details are not subject to disclosure in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Code.

In a separate incident on February 27, 2024, KNB officers, in coordination with the prosecutor's office, apprehended two residents of the Akmola region on suspicion of extortion. The investigation revealed their involvement in extorting money from entrepreneurs, with the support of foreign criminal figures, in an attempt to establish criminal control over businesses in the "Burabai" resort area.
