Strong Earthquake Hits Tajikistan-Kyrgyzstan Border, No Impact in Kazakhstan

An earthquake occurred on the border of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, with no seismic activity felt in Kazakhstan. The seismic network of the "NNCSN and I" LLP of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan registered the earthquake in Almaty on March 22, 2024, at 08:47. The epicenter was located 592 km southwest of the city on the Tajikistan-Kyrgyzstan border.

The earthquake had an energy class of 11.9 and a magnitude of MPV 5.0, with the epicenter coordinates at 39.44° N, 71.89° E and a depth of 5 km. According to the MSK-64 scale, there was no noticeable impact in Kazakhstan.

Seismologists and the Department of Emergency Situations have issued a forecast for strong earthquakes in Almaty, urging residents to stay alert and prepared for potential seismic activity.
