Minister Reports to President on Response to Earthquakes in Almaty

The Minister of Emergency Situations, Chingis Arinov, briefed President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on the department's response to the recent earthquakes in Almaty. Presidential advisor and press secretary Berik Uali shared this update on Facebook.

It was noted that the actions taken, based on the President's instructions, were generally within the necessary parameters. The situation in the city is calm, with all services functioning according to approved plans.

President Tokayev instructed the Minister to continue closely collaborating with Almaty's mayor, Erbolat Dosayev, and all city services to ensure control over the situation in the city for the residents' benefit.

The earthquake, with a magnitude of 5, occurred in Almaty on the morning of March 4, 2024. A siren sounded immediately after the tremors, followed by an aftershock around 12:55. Almaty residents actively shared the aftermath of the strong tremors on social media.

One resident of the city was injured during the earthquake. An 18-year-old victim with both ankles fractured sought medical assistance. The circumstances are currently under investigation.
