in National Security / Kazakhstan - by

In a briefing on March 4th at the Emergency Situations Department in Almaty, it was discussed whether it is safe for city residents to spend the night in their homes following a powerful earthquake. The head of the department, Nurlan Atygaev, noted that residents had previously been advised to return to their homes from gathering points. Daulet Sarsenbayev, the director of the National Seismic Monitoring and Research Center, also shared his opinion on the matter. He emphasized the need to understand that living in a seismically active region means earthquakes are a common occurrence. Personally, he stated that he plans to spend the night at home and not flee anywhere. On March 4th, another strong earthquake hit Almaty. Residents of the city felt strong tremors with a magnitude of 5 points at 11:22.
