in National Security / Kazakhstan - by

On March 27th, an interagency operational meeting was held at the General Prosecutor's Office to discuss the ongoing flood situation in Kazakhstan. The meeting involved the Emergency Situations Ministry, Interior Ministry, Ministry of Ecology, and "Kazhydromet."

According to the General Prosecutor's Office press service, the Emergency Situations Ministry representative provided an update on the current situation. The most severe flooding is observed in the regions of Akmola, Aktobe, East Kazakhstan, West Kazakhstan, Kostanay, Abai, and Ulytau. Republican and 12 regional headquarters have been set up, with a hotline in operation and round-the-clock duty organized.

Local authorities, police, and emergency services are conducting urgent operations to pump water from flooded areas and restore communications. 94 people have been evacuated. A total of 2,500 employees, 693 pieces of equipment, and 288 water pumping units are involved in the response efforts. Despite these measures, residential buildings, yards, and basements remain flooded in the affected regions. 7 road washouts have been recorded. Given the unstable weather conditions, including heavy rains and rising temperatures, the risk of further flooding in the coming days persists.

The meeting also addressed the condition of hydraulic structures, engineering protection of settlements, roads, and bridges, ensuring timely evacuation of residents, readiness of evacuation centers, and provision of primary medical and social assistance. Special attention was drawn to the need for uninterrupted operation of population alert systems (sirens, local notification systems, etc.). The police are focused on ensuring safety and public order during the relief operations.

At the meeting's conclusion, regional prosecutors and authorized state bodies were instructed to jointly respond to signals from the population and swiftly provide assistance to those affected by the floods. Earlier reports mentioned flooding at the airport in Aktobe, a collapsed bridge in the city of Zhem in the Aktobe region, and flooding on a major highway in West Kazakhstan.
