Kokshetau City Declares State of Emergency Due to Flooding

in National Security / Kazakhstan - by

The city administration has declared a local state of emergency in Kokshetau due to flooding caused by a significant increase in water levels in the Chaglynskoye Reservoir. The rapid rise in water levels led to a blockage of ice in front of a bridge, resulting in water overflowing its banks. To mitigate the situation, authorities pumped out 8,456 cubic meters of water, laid 4,167 sandbags, and expanded and deepened approximately 500 meters of channels. Additionally, 9 water passage structures were cleared, 520 cubic meters of snow were removed, and 395 people and 160 pieces of equipment, including 12 motor pumps, were involved in the operations.

As a result of the flooding, 101 individuals were evacuated from their homes. The majority of evacuees were accommodated at the Kokshetau City Social Adaptation Center, where they were provided with bedding, personal hygiene items, and hot meals. Local authorities emphasized that those affected will receive necessary assistance and care.

Additional evacuation centers have been set up, and all affected individuals are encouraged to contact +7 775 666 9908 (WhatsApp) for support. Mayor Bauyrzhan Gaisv expressed gratitude to all residents assisting in flood relief efforts and assured that all measures are being taken to stabilize the situation and minimize potential threats.

The civilian sector is also contributing to support flood victims. A collection point for donations, including warm clothing, bedding, and essential items, has been established at the "Қоғамдық келісім" Public Association under the management of the internal policy department of the Akmola region.
