Almaty experiences aftershock earthquake with magnitude of 5.4

In Almaty, on March 6th at 05:09, another earthquake was felt. According to experts from the Seismic Stations Network of the National Scientific Center for Seismological Observations and Research of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan, the epicenter was located 266 km southeast of Almaty in China - an aftershock. The energy class of the earthquake was 12.6 with a magnitude of MPV 5.4. The coordinates of the epicenter were 41.22° N, 78.73° E, with a depth of 10 km. The intensity information (on the MSK-64 scale) reported 2 points in Almaty.

Earlier, aftershocks with a magnitude of 2 points were felt on March 4th at 12:54. The epicenter of the earthquake was located 255 km southeast of Almaty in China. A 5-point earthquake occurred in Almaty on March 4th at 11:22. Immediately after the underground shocks, sirens sounded in the city. The head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations made a statement urging people not to panic. Residents evacuated buildings and went out onto the streets.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations provided information on how to find the nearest population reception point and reminded people what to do during an earthquake and how to assemble an "emergency kit." Seismologists and the Ministry of Emergency Situations announced a forecast for strong earthquakes in Almaty.
