Nineteenth Meeting of SCO Security Council Secretaries Held in Nur-Sultan

On April 3rd, Nur-Sultan hosted the nineteenth Meeting of Secretaries of Security Councils of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states, chaired by the Kazakh side. According to Akorda, the delegations welcomed Iran as a full member of the SCO and Belarus' upcoming accession.

The Security Council Secretaries discussed further cooperation mechanisms to combat terrorism, separatism, extremism, illegal drug and weapon trafficking, transnational organized crime, and international information security. They strongly condemned terrorism in all its forms and urged global cooperation to combat this evil.

The participants emphasized the need to enhance cooperation in responding to terrorist, separatist, and extremist threats, including countering transnational organized crime and illegal migration channels used for terrorist purposes. The Secretaries reaffirmed their commitment to jointly ensuring regional security and stability.

The Protocol of the nineteenth Meeting of SCO Security Council Secretaries was signed, and the next meeting is scheduled for 2025 in China. Additionally, bilateral meetings took place on the sidelines between the Secretary of the Security Council of Kazakhstan and the SCO Secretary-General, as well as delegations from India, Iran, China, and Mongolia.

Earlier, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with the Security Council Secretaries of the SCO member states at the residence.
