A meeting was held on April 3rd at the Crisis Center of the Ministry of Emergency Situations with the participation of the Vice Prime Minister - Deputy Head of the Republican Headquarters for coordinating flood control measures and flood aftermath elimination, Kanat Bozumbaev, and the Minister of Emergency Situations, Chingis Arinov.
The government highlighted the ongoing complex flood situation in the country as of April 3rd. 1364 private residential houses remain flooded in six regions, with water overflowing on 105 road sections. Restoration work is underway on damaged road surfaces at 78 locations and four bridges. 64 settlements are cut off from transportation, with food and medicine deliveries being arranged.
Evacuation of residents from flood-affected areas continues around the clock. In the past 24 hours, rescuers have evacuated 1524 people, including 496 children. Explosive operations are being carried out to prevent ice jams on water bodies in the region. Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Emergency Situations conducted aerial inspections of Karaganda, Kostanay, and Akmola regions from April 1st to 3rd.
Today, on April 3rd, assessments were conducted in the Arshaly, Tselinograd districts, Kosshy city, and the Preobrazhensky hydropower plant. The snow cover in the region is around 76%. Preemptive relocation of resources by the Ministry of Emergency Situations to 17 settlements in Tselinograd, Arshaly, Atbasar, Sandıktaǵ, Kokshetau, and Kosshy has been organized.
In Karaganda region, the snow cover is approximately 34%, with preventive measures, shore strengthening, and sandbagging activities underway. Around 700 personnel and 118 pieces of equipment are involved, maintaining a stable situation. However, in Kostanay region, the snow cover is about 71%, leading to flooding of 75 houses and 38 yards. Resources have been relocated from East Kazakhstan, Karaganda, and Kyzylorda regions for shore strengthening operations.
The situation has stabilized in Arkalyk city and Amangeldy district, while challenges persist in Jangeldin. Necessary measures are being taken by local authorities, and damage assessment work has commenced in the regions, with continuous monitoring in place. Precipitation and a sharp rise in temperatures are expected, leading to intense snowmelt in the near future.
Following the meeting, the Deputy Head of the Republican Headquarters issued directives to regional authorities to ensure safety, timely evacuation, and rescue of people from flood-affected areas. Earlier, Vice Prime Minister Kanat Bozumbaev and Minister Chingis Arinov inspected flood-prone areas in Akmola region on April 3rd.
