Kazakhstan Security Committee Detains and Extradites Citizens from Turkey

The National Security Committee of Kazakhstan has informed about the detention and extradition of two Kazakhstani citizens from Turkey. According to the statement dated April 4, 2024, the Committee, in cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and law enforcement agencies of Turkey, detained and extradited two wanted Kazakhstani citizens from Istanbul to Almaty.

They have been placed in a pre-trial detention center on suspicion of large-scale economic contraband of gold and leading a transnational organized criminal group. The press service of the National Security Committee stated that further information is classified according to Article 201 of the Criminal Procedure Code and cannot be disclosed.

On April 1, 2024, in Aktau, Kazakhstan, the National Security Committee, in coordination with the prosecution authorities, detained a local resident on suspicion of preparing for an act of terrorism. During a search of his home, authorities found components for an explosive device with shrapnel and other material evidence.
