The Prosecutor's Office of Aktobe Region has registered a criminal case regarding the dam break in the Aitikebiy District. The incident occurred on March 30th due to floods. Following the threat of flooding, local authorities decided to evacuate the residents of the T. Zhurgenov village. A total of 927 people, including 215 children, from 178 households were evacuated. 78 yards were flooded, and 10 houses were destroyed.

The Prosecutor's Office of Aitikebiy District has initiated a criminal case under Article 371, Part 1 ("Negligence") of the Criminal Code of Kazakhstan. The case has been forwarded to the Department of the Anti-Corruption Agency for Aktobe Region for further investigation.

The supervisory authority listed the circumstances leading to the decision to register the criminal case, including the deviation of the Irgiz River due to the dam break and damage to power and gas supply lines, leaving the T. Zhurgenov village without electricity, water, and gas.

The dam "Shcherbakovskoye" is under the responsibility of the Department of Natural Resources and Regulation of Natural Resource Use of Aktobe Region. Despite repair works being completed in 2023, the dam failed to function properly during the flood period, causing significant harm to the rights and legitimate interests of the residents and organizations of the T. Zhurgenov village.
