The official representative of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Dinara Nurgaliyeva, announced on April 5th that the evacuation of residents from Kulsary to Atyrau is currently taking place via passenger train. Over 2000 local residents, including 400 children, have already been evacuated by this time.
According to her, more than 600 buildings in the city of Kulsary have been flooded. "745 personnel and over 280 pieces of equipment are involved in emergency and rescue operations in the settlement. Over 4,000 volunteers and local residents have been mobilized. Additional forces and resources have already been dispatched to Kulsary from the cities of Aktau and Atyrau," the official representative of the Ministry of Emergency Situations stated.
She also mentioned that explosive works are being carried out on the Zhem River to increase its capacity. "To strengthen the riverbank, gabion baskets with inert materials are being laid. The situation is under control of the Republican Headquarters for Flood Consequences Elimination," assured Dinara Nurgaliyeva.
The Akimat of the Atyrau region reported that specialized equipment continues to arrive in Kulsary to combat the floods. This includes diesel generators, manipulators, excavators, and more. Despite parts of the city being submerged, authorities are striving to rescue and secure the remaining areas.
Earlier, it was reported that on April 4, 2024, the city of Kulsary in the Zhylyoi district of the Atyrau region found itself in a dire situation due to the floods. On April 4, due to the rising water levels in the Zhem River, the hydro post "Emba - Akkiztogay" was flooded, and access to it is currently cut off.
