Kazakhstan Ministry of Emergency Situations Addresses Dam Break in Russia

The Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan issued a statement on April 6 regarding the dam break on the Ural River in the Russian city of Orsk. Due to this emergency situation, water is not flowing into Kazakhstan.

The statement noted a partial breach of the protective dam on the Ural River in the Orsk area of the Orenburg region, posing a threat to the nearest residential areas of Orsk. However, it was clarified that the breach does not currently endanger Kazakhstan.

Minister of Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan, Chingis Arinov, is in direct communication with Russian Minister of Emergency Situations Alexander Kurenkov to exchange real-time information on the flood situation and response measures.

In parallel, the mayor of Orenburg, Sergei Salmin, reported a critical situation in the city and its surroundings due to the flooding. More than 300 houses and 750 plots of land have been submerged. At-risk areas include Forstadt, Kuznechny, Sitsovka, Pristanstionny, Zarechny, Podmayachny, Solnechny, Ovchinniy Gorodok, and the settlement named after Kuibyshev.

Earlier reports indicated a dam burst in the Old Town area of Orsk, Orenburg region, on April 5, prompting the urgent evacuation of residents.
