Authorities in Almaty Region Shut Down Illegal Drug Lab in Private Home

The Department of the National Security Committee in the Almaty region successfully halted the operations of an underground laboratory producing psychotropic substances in a private residence on March 22nd. Two foreigners suspected of committing this offense have been detained, according to the department's press service.

Approximately 20 kg of synthetic drugs, 1,000 liters of precursors, and equipment used in the production of "synthetics" were confiscated during the raids. The investigation revealed that the raw materials were being smuggled in disguised forms from abroad through logistic companies.

A pre-trial investigation is ongoing under Article 297, Part 3 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan, which deals with the illegal manufacturing, processing, acquisition, storage, transportation for the purpose of trafficking, dispatch, or sale of narcotic substances, psychotropic substances, and their analogs.

The detained individuals are currently in custody. Further details are not disclosed in the interest of the investigation, as per Article 201 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
