Efforts to Rescue and Evacuate Over 75,000 People Amidst Floods in Kazakhstan

Chief of the Department for Emergency Situations of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kaharman Orazalin, announced on April 8th during a briefing at the Central Communications Center that over 75,000 people have been rescued and evacuated since the beginning of the flood period, including 18,000 children.

In several regions including Atyrau, Aktobe, Akmola, Kostanay, North Kazakhstan, and Pavlodar, a total of 3,704 private residential houses, 567 yards, 1,824 summer cottages, and 75 buildings of various purposes remain flooded.

Orazalin highlighted that 59 settlements are cut off from transportation, with over 17,000 people, 2,020 units of equipment, 441 water pumping devices, 90 boats, and 15 aircraft involved in round-the-clock emergency and rescue operations. State of emergency situations have been declared in 10 regions, with 1,049 calls received on the emergency hotline.

Since the beginning of the flood period, more than 75,000 people, including 18,000 children and 49 individuals with disabilities, have been rescued and evacuated. Currently, over 7,000 people, including 3,180 children, are housed in temporary shelters.

A total of 2,811 individuals, including 865 children, have been rescued by air, and 127 tons of humanitarian aid have been delivered to the affected regions, with additional aid from Kyrgyzstan en route.

The representative of the Ministry of Emergency Situations also urged citizens to be extremely cautious and strictly follow safety measures during the flood period, advising against leaving homes or evacuation points without proper authorization.

Earlier, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection issued an important statement to Kazakhstani citizens regarding aid for those affected by the floods.
