in National Security / Kazakhstan - by

The head of the Veterinary Department in the West Kazakhstan Region, Nurkaiyra Kusainova, reported that eight cattle burial grounds and 14 burial sites with anthrax were flooded during the recent floods. To prevent the spread of dangerous infectious diseases among animals in the affected areas, veterinary services will closely monitor livestock. Specialists will carry out vaccinations against anthrax and emphysematous carbuncles, the pathogens of which persist in the soil.

According to preliminary data, 219 head of cattle, 1552 sheep, 54 horses, 97 pigs, and 119 poultry perished during the floods. Kusainova noted that these numbers are not final as some villages remain cut off to this day.

Currently, veterinary services in the region, in collaboration with local authorities, are working on disposing of the carcasses of the deceased animals. The remains of 115 cattle, 1246 sheep, 23 horses, and 81 birds were incinerated in designated areas and then buried.
