The Emergency Situations Ministry in Kazakhstan has provided an update on the current flood situation in various regions of the country. According to Erasyl Saipash, a senior officer at the Committee for Civil Defense and Military Units of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, emergency and rescue operations are ongoing around the clock, involving approximately 16,000 personnel and over 2,500 pieces of equipment.
Saipash stated that more than 85,000 people have been rescued and evacuated by civil defense services, including around 30,000 children. Currently, 8,349 individuals, including 3,809 children, are being housed in temporary shelters. The Ministry of Emergency Situations and local executive bodies have pumped out over 8 million cubic meters of meltwater and laid down more than 1,000 units of sandbags and 1 ton of inert material. Meanwhile, 29 local-scale emergencies are still active in nine regions of the country, including Aktobe, Kostanay, West Kazakhstan, Zhambyl, Akmola, Karaganda, Atyrau, Pavlodar, and North Kazakhstan regions. Previously, the Prime Minister inspected the reinforcement works on dams in Petropavlovsk. The flood situation in the North Kazakhstan region is under special control, with the First Deputy Prime Minister Roman Sklyar overseeing operations on-site. Operational headquarters are functioning 24/7 to address the crisis effectively.
