The First Deputy Prime Minister, Roman Sklyar, conducted a working tour of the dams in Zarechny, Ucheva Street, and Pribrzhnoye, to assess the readiness of flood defenses in the Podgora area. He also reviewed the preparedness of evacuation centers. Following a report by the mayor of Petropavlovsk, Serik Mukhamediev, Sklyar ordered the evacuation of 239 residents in Zarechny due to the impending flood threat.
The mayor warned that a significant amount of water would reach the village in three days, potentially endangering 132 out of 200 homes in the area. Sklyar emphasized the urgency of evacuating citizens, stressing that the flooding this year is expected to be more severe than in 2017 due to the low-lying location of the settlement.
Sklyar instructed officials to engage with residents refusing to evacuate and oversee the relocation of families from the at-risk area to prevent any accidents. He highlighted the critical nature of the upcoming floods, urging immediate evacuation to avoid casualties.
The First Deputy Prime Minister noted that the region was facing the highest flood levels in the history of the reservoir and directed efforts to minimize overflow threats by mobilizing resources for dam reinforcement. He ensured continuous water supply and drainage for the city of Petropavlovsk, emphasizing the strategic importance of the pumping station.
Sklyar concluded by outlining plans to construct additional dams downstream in the Kyzylzhar district to protect populated areas. He emphasized adaptability to evolving circumstances and adherence to existing plans to safeguard communities.
During the inspection, Sklyar also assessed the readiness of the road infrastructure for potential water overflow and instructed the regional director of "KazAvtoZhol" to ensure round-the-clock monitoring of the bypass road for safe civilian transportation.
