Ministry Provides Update on Reservoirs Amid Floods in Kazakhstan

The official representative of the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, Moldir Abdyalieva, provided an update on the current situation with reservoirs in Kazakhstan due to floods. She mentioned that in the Kostanay region, the flood peak has passed and water levels are receding. Two major reservoirs are at 93% capacity, with specialists regulating water discharge.

In the North Kazakhstan region, two large reservoirs are at full capacity, with ongoing flooding. Side tributaries to the Esil River are receding. In the West Kazakhstan region, four major reservoirs are at 67% capacity, operating normally. The level of the Chagan River is rising.

Abdyalieva highlighted the expected second wave of flooding along the Zhaiyk River. According to data from Russia, water discharge from the Irtysh hydroelectric station has decreased. Discussions on joint hydroengineering work took place between Kazakhstan and Russia.

In the East Kazakhstan region, five major reservoirs are at 62% capacity, with preparations for the flood peak this week. All responsible services are on high alert. In the Akmola region, two reservoirs are at 99% capacity, operating in transit mode.

Similar updates were provided for the Aktobe and Karaganda regions. All reservoirs are functioning normally, with continuous monitoring and round-the-clock duty shifts. Ministry specialists are closely overseeing flood discharge, river flow regulation, and water accumulation in reservoirs on-site.

The Ministry remains vigilant in ensuring the safe management of floodwaters and maintaining reservoir operations.
