North Kazakhstan Region Akim Urges Residents to Prepare for Flooding

in National Security / Kazakhstan - by

The Akim of the North Kazakhstan Region, Gauyez Nurmukhambetov, has addressed the region's residents regarding the flooding situation.

The flooding situation remains complex, with all necessary flood prevention measures being taken. Initial efforts have focused on diverting meltwater from residential areas.

Currently, a significant amount of water is flowing along the Esil River, with the Sergei Reservoir recording a record overflow of 4 meters and 25 centimeters. This poses a threat to settlements along the riverbank, with the regional center expected to be reached in a day or two. Villages such as Pribrezhnoye, Teplichnoye, and the settlement of Zarechny are at risk of flooding.

Efforts have been made to strengthen dams, including those around the first lift pump station to ensure uninterrupted water supply.

The Akim emphasized the unprecedented measures being taken to protect residents, including the evacuation of Zarechny settlement at risk of flooding. Cooperation with emergency services, police, and local authorities is crucial, and residents are urged to comply with flood directives.

The Akim highlighted the importance of citizen safety, with the state providing assistance and compensation for those affected. Evacuation plans are in place, with reassurances that help will reach everyone in need.

The unity and solidarity of over 3,000 individuals engaged in flood relief efforts, including construction companies, businesses, civil servants, rescuers, police, volunteers, and citizens, have been crucial in facing this year's flood challenge.

As challenges persist, the Akim called for calm, mutual assistance, and vigilance. Those in flood-prone areas were advised to relocate to safe zones, prioritizing human life above all else.

Preparations for worst-case scenarios are underway, with a commitment to ensuring resident safety and minimizing flood consequences. The community's support and cooperation are essential in overcoming this difficult period.
