Man in Astana Faces Criminal Charges for False Terrorist Threat Report

A resident of Astana has been charged with knowingly making a false report after calling the emergency hotline "102" to claim that a Tajik citizen was planning a terrorist attack in an apartment. The information was not confirmed.

According to the Astana police department on April 10, 2024, after conducting investigative measures, the Department for Combating Extremism of Astana identified a 41-year-old city resident who provided the false report.

A criminal case has been opened for knowingly making a false terrorist threat report. It was revealed that the individual who provided the false information was in a state of moderate alcohol intoxication and has been placed in temporary detention in Astana.

The Astana police press service warns that knowingly false reports are considered serious crimes. Providing false information about a terrorist act can result in a fine of up to 5,000 MRP or imprisonment for up to five years.

Since January 25, 2024, anonymous threats of attacks on schools have been circulating in Telegram in cities like Aktobe, Atyrau, Almaty, Pavlodar, Karaganda, and Kostanay.
