in National Security / Kazakhstan - by

The authorities in the Atyrau region have provided information on the expected timing and scale of the upcoming spring flood. During a briefing at the emergency headquarters, Deputy Akim of the region, Zhasulan Bisembayev, addressed the question of when the spring flood is expected to begin.

Bisembayev mentioned that there are varying opinions on the matter, ranging from catastrophic to optimistic, but the official forecasts rely on data from the state institution "Kazhydromet." According to their predictions, the water level in the Ural River is expected to reach six meters after the onset of the flood.

Preparations along the Zhaiyk River and dams are being planned based on this projected water level to ensure reliable flood protection. The peak of the flood is forecasted to occur between April 20 and 25, according to Kazhydromet data.

Regarding the areas that are at risk of flooding, Bisembayev highlighted settlements such as Besikty, Almaly, and Berek. Efforts are being made to prevent flooding in these areas, with the construction of two defensive lines currently underway.

In Atyrau and its suburbs, 58.5 km of embankments have been constructed, with 820 pieces of equipment, 2225 government officials, and 3354 volunteers involved in the embankment works. Prime Minister Olzhas Bektayev emphasized the need for maximum mobilization of resources in Uralsk and Atyrau on April 11th.
